3 Tips for Online Restaurant Marketing

Restaurants around the world just went through hell and back. The past few months are responsible for the closing of around 110,000 restaurants.

Your restaurant likely took a hit, too. If you’re lucky, your place is still open. With restrictions calming down and patio season coming up, it’s time to make up some lost profits.

Restaurant marketing is going to get fierce and competitive. Some places have big marketing budgets, but free or very cheap marketing tactics can be just as effective.

We’ve put together some tips to help you with very inexpensive restaurant marketing. You’re going to absolutely kill it if you implement this advice!

1. Set Up a Yelp Page

Yelp can be a great marketing tool for restaurants. Customers could leave positive comments about your restaurant that’ll lead to more customers and a better reputation.

And the good thing about Yelp is that it’s completely free to set up a business page! This means that you can get:

  • Free publicity on Google and Yelp
  • A great platform for your customers to leave good reviews
  • The ability to connect with customers

Many restaurant owners are actually afraid of Yelp. They see it as a double-edged sword because of the possibility that customers will leave bad reviews.

The facts say otherwise, though: 51% of reviews are 5-star.

Here’s the rating distribution.

We can see that most reviews are actually positive. If you’re afraid of getting a negative review, then maybe that’s saying something about your business rather than Yelp…

2. Establish a Presence on Social Media

Setting up accounts on social media is a great way to do restaurant marketing. Social media is an insanely amazing tool for businesses.

You should set up accounts on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Each has its pros and cons but they’re all valuable in some way for your business.

Be sure to post things that are entertaining. Nobody wants to follow an account that just throws ads at them. You may also find that posting giveaways can foster growth at a faster rate. Promote your social media accounts on the property, too!

Other cool things to post could be behind-the-scenes videos, fun cooking challenges, or eating challenges for patrons.

3. Make Your Place Post-Worthy

Young people these days love to take pictures and short videos of everything they’re doing. Don’t be afraid to show off a little and create a stunning, post-worthy restaurant.

Creating an experience-driven space that’s known for being “cool” or “fun” is one of the most effective forms of free online advertising available to you.

You may consider adding mood lighting to build the atmosphere. There are various options available to you, like globe lights, fairy lights, and many more. The key is not to overdo it and make your place look tacky.

A flower wall is going to completely steal the show, though. Allow patrons to pose in front of it to take pictures and you’re golden. Put up a sign nearby encouraging them to post it and tag the restaurant. People go insane for flower walls.

Another way to make your restaurant post-worthy is through funny menu copy. Even funny food in itself could make people post about your restaurant.
